A new year off to a rousing start. We are rehearsing for our forthcoming concert on March 23, 'Faure's Requiem and more...'
Three briliant Christmas concerts, all with a different flavour!
The first was our annual trip to Stoke Goldington where we performed traditional carols some just for the choir and some for the audience to join in with.
The second was our 'own' concert where we were joined by Olney Brass performing two joint items, O Holy Night and The Shepherds' Farewell.
What a fantastic night! The Gala Concert was a great occasion to be at, with a full audience and very large choir, and some beautiful duets performed on the piano by Ed Tomlinson and Richard Heyes.
The choir commence rehearsals for Christmas this coming rehearsal, Monday 15 October. If you are thinking of joining us please fill in the 'Contact us' page, so we are prepared to welcome you.
The choir recommence rehearsals on Monday, 3 September. Subscriptions for the term are £45.
We will be continuing rehearsals for the forthcoming Gala Concert on 13 October at The Chrysalis Theatre in Willen.
We held two concerts in June. One for the people of Sherington, great fun was had by all! When can we go back? The other was a joint concert with Fenny Stompers Jazz Band in Newport Pagnell. Not so well attended which was a shame as the proceeds were going to the Friends of Willen Hospice and Air Ambulance. The audience enjoyed the wide range of music provided by the Singers and Jazz Band.
Our recent concert in the Parish Church was a huge success with over 200 people enjoying the evening! Thank you to all our supporters who braved the inclement weather to join us in the first of our celebratory concerts of the year.
Rehearsals are now underway for the Summer concert, Sizzling Summer Serenade - look out for the posters in town. This will be somewhat lighter than the last concert with music from the shows and popular songs. Our guests are the well-known jazz group, Fenny Stompers Jazz Band. Tickets available soon from the usual sources, Cambourne Travel, Wilsons, Pat Kearsley and the website.
Tickets are now available for our forthcoming concert - Baroque to Rock. Available from the website on the Purchase tickets or from Cambourne Travel, Newport Pagnell, Wilson's, Olney or from any choir member.
Rehearsals are going well for our forthcoming concert, Baroque to Rock, on 28 April at the Parish Church in NP.
The choir are pleased to welcome several new members this term as well, we now have well over 50 members.
Please note that our advertised concert for 23 June will now take place at Lovat Hall, Silver St, NP and NOT at the United Reformed Church. We have changed venue because of capacity; we have Fenny Stompers Jazz Band, a local jazz band, joining us for this event.
We start back to rehearsals on Monday, 9 January to prepare for the next concert on 28 April, Baroque to Rock.
On Monday, 16 January we are hosting a Come and Sing event at the United Reformed Church in Newport Pagnell. Please let us know if you want to come by using the 'Contact us' page. This is a free event and part of the Singing in the City initiative.
The Singers are also pleased to announce that our Christmas concerts were a resounding success! Both concerts raised a substantial amount for the two nominated charities, MacMillan Cancer Support and Hope Outreach UK, respectively. Both concerts were given to sell-out audiences.
We have just given a very successful Voices for Hospices concert - Singing for Willen, which was held at the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul, Newport Pagnell on 8 October. Many local choirs took part including, The Parish Choir with St Lukes, The Reluctants, a ladies acapella group and Milton Keynes Youth Choir. We were also pleased to welcome Kevin Sullivan. The concert raised around £1300 for the Friends of Willen Hospice. Many thanks to all who came and supported us.
Last term our concert had more of a British flavour with music that you might hear at the Last Night of the Proms. The main choral piece was Hiawatha's Wedding Feast by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Other pieces included Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, The Pearl Fisher's Duet and of course, Jerusalem. We had two guest soloists performing too. The concert was given on Saturday, 23 July in the United Reformed Church in Newport Pagnell.
Newport Pagnell Singers are delighted to welcome Roger Windmill as our Musical Director. Richard has worked with Newport Pagnell Singers since 1997, first as Accompanist, then as Musical Director. Due to illness Richard Heyes has handed the baton over to Roger Windmill and is now Associate Conductor/Accompanist.
Under Roger's guidance we have tackled a new work, From the Bavarian Highlands, which was performed, in partnership with another choir, Andante at our last concert. The concert was held at St Peter and Paul's, the Parish Church of Newport Pagnell on Saturday 9 April. The concert had a transatlantic flavour with pieces by American composers and then we went off to the British Isles for pieces by Bristish composers. In the middle Ed Tomlinson performed Rhapsody in Blue. All in aid of the Friends of Willen Hospice.
This concert went down so well that we are repeating our performance of Hiawatha's wedding Feast at St Andrew's Church, Great Linford on 15 October at 7.30pm (please note change of venue). If you would like to come to that concert please use the 'contact us' page.
We will also be rehearsing for A Voices for Hospices concert - Singing for Willen, to be held at the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul, Newport Pagnell on 8 October. Many local choirs will be taking part including, The Parish Choir with St Lukes, The Reluctants, a ladies acapella group and Milton Keynes Youth Choir. We are also pleased to welcome Kevin Sullivan.
